If you hire a framer that is experienced with conventional framing you can do a conventional rafter roof for the same or less than trusses. Then put bridging on the ceiling joists (which can be 2 x 6 or 2 x 8 depending on span and how stiff you want it) and deck with 1/2" plywood. Put a door in the gable for access from outside and possibly stairs or ladder inside. The result will be lots of acreage to store anything that can be carried up there. In my case it is 500 bd ft of cherry/walnut and other stuff. It becomes a dandy place to dry lumber in the summer. My span is 24' with 2 x 8's and bridging.
