As he wrote "will not cleanly cut the veneer either across the grain or with the grain." A veneer saw is what some might call an obsolete tool although die-hards still depend on them. I have a very basic French veneer saw that must be 30 years old -- it came from Constantine's (remember them?) and I've used it maybe two times and not a all in the 20 years since I left Alaska.
