We would be happy to have snow in any amount! The deepest snow we have ever had was in 2006 - a bit over 2 feet.
Snow is really important in New Mexico - because it melts slowly it seeps into the aquifers instead of running off on the surface. That's really important since the annual rainfall is about 8 inches. The other reason snow is really important is that we need the income from the ski areas. New Mexico has excellent skiing most years - fluffy powder and much cheaper than Colorado.
