The guy who taught me how to do dovetails, Bob Mays, cuts beautiful dovetails very rapidly. Even he said that if he were doing kitchen cabinets he would pull out a jig.

He never put down anyone's poorly made dovetails, only suggested what to do to improve them. His philosophy seemed to be that most people need to make a lot of mediocre dovetails before they can make fine woodworking dovetails. Mine still aren't fine woodworking level, but I think I would be letting Bob down if I didn't try to make each one the best I could.
