Epoxy is a thermo-setting system. If you use alcohol to thin it, the setting reaction can easily exceed the boiling point of the alcohol (Ethanol/Methanol) at about 180°. The alcohol will then boil out of the resin and you get foamed plastic with no strength and a real mess to deal with. I learned this the hard way. If you need to thin epoxy, use very small amounts of acetone.
