It is rare that you use lumber in its rough sawn dimensions. I prefer to breakdown the rough lumber to somewhat near the length and width I need for a project. Sometimes you can expose figure by planing off more of one side (after full cure) other times you can retain thickness much better. I would never purchase skip or full planed lumber except when building a house or building!
