....wood is going to move if it wants to. Planing somewhat is going to make it worse, counterproductive and waste of time. Species like madrone (arbutus) may appreciate some planing after it has been seasoned for 1,5 years per inch, for further storage.

I used arbutus as an example, because it is practically alive (unstable, moving) until it is well seasoned.

Planing without jointing first (after cutting smaller sizes to be used) is also total waste of wood and time.
