The home solutions are all pretty bad in every way, and the hand planing with panel raising planes, or a combo of some planes can be the most fun ever. At an industrial level with modern machines one can get a lot done, but I would prefer to find some other way in a small shop.
Speaking of which one can rough out safely enough on a table saw. One can also make some amazing shapes on a table saw using skewed fences. These methods when applicable, all seem better than routers, both for safety and otherwise.
