If ever you have blown out too much drywall or plaster or mortar installing plastic anchors, or even molly and toggle anchors when putting up curtains or hanging stuff. Gorilla Glue applied to an undersized piece of wood or anchor, screw, etc. will fill the gap and hold things tight. Since the hole is already there, spray it with a couple of spritzes of water, coat the bottom two thirds of the item to be inserted with a good coverage of Gorilla Glue, and set it in the hole. Hold temporarily with tape if necessary. In Gorilla glue's cure time, in my experience, better overnight, the glue wiill expand into the recesses and also come toward the wall front locking in the anchor right where you want it. You can then drill a pilot and hang pretty much anything you intended to hang in the first place. It's a one time fix, but none have failed me yet. If in brick or block, I pre-drill a pilot hole in a wood dowel and insert the dowel. Once set a screw put into the pilot hole seems solid as its surroundings..
