with our Bosch DW, We were using the "Calgon Gel Style" detergent. The dispenser door was just opening about 1/4 or less of normal. After cleaning the diswasher with vinegar and citric acid powder, I still had to remove the cover (door) from the dispenser unit - it was caked with the white deposit mentioned before. I tried to dissolve this scale with just about every cleaning agent I had including Vinegar, citric acid powder, CLR, Limeaway etc. None seemed to touch it. I ended up scraping the deposit clean with a sharp pocket knife. Then I went on the web and researched the issue. Seems the Gel detergent is not really good to use in hard water - powder style was recommended. I also found several sites that stated that all the DW detergents have a fairly short open life and you should buy small boxes (useable in a couple weeks) or the product degraded. We are now using powder and continue to use the dishwasher cleaner product that you hang in the unit and run a cycle - we have used this for a couple of years and it does keep the stainless tub and door shining so guess it helps.
