OT - Plumbing Soldering Question

Ralph Lipeles
When replacing a valve I always used to unscrew the handle/stem so that the soldering heat would not damage the sealing washer. I have to replace a valve and am going to use a ball valve. Are there any precautions necessary when soldering the ball valve to prevent heat damage to the seal?
