The drop for the planer is overhead - it gives me more flexibility for moving the machine around (I have an L-shaped basement shop with a big beam cutting off one leg, so the DC and machines are clustered and mostly on wheels). I have a straight boot that I thought about using instead, but the 90 degree boot seemed to fit the overhead drop better. I would have put it together the same way if I had used the straight boot.
