Assuming you used a water based dye, you should apply a coat of dewaxed shellac. The waterborne finish will re-dissolve the waterbased dye and cause a "muddying" of the first coat of finish. Be sure to use a dewaxed shellac as waterborne acrylic finish does not adhere well to shellac that contains its natural wax.
