New Workbench *PIC*

Thomas Skaggs, Foothills of Mount Level
So, after months of work, the new workshop is up and running! I had just one task to complete before I could call the shop "complete". I was lacking a workbench. I have a wonderful old industrial arts bench but I needed a bench that I could work from all sides.

There are many traditional forms of benches out there but I decided to design one that functioned specifically for how I work. So here it is:

The top is an assembly. The main work surface is a section of salvaged bowling alley. I constructed a frame around it of cherry.

One end of the bench has a built-in storage box with a cherry lid that is flush with the top. The lid, when closed, adds additional work surface.

Inside the storage I keep my bench chisels and assorted common "go-to" items.

The other end has holes for bench dogs. The base is a very sturdy steel product called "Adjusta-Bench" by Noden. It is a heavy steel base that has mechanisms on both ends that allow me to raise and lower the height of the bench with little effort. The bench is heavy as all gitout but adjusting the height is surprisingly easy.

Overall dimensions....32" wide and 7' long. Danish oil finish.
