I think I'd drill a series of holes large enough for 3/4" pipe in your 4x4's at a slight angle and insert the pipe into the posts. You'll need to make a jig so all of them are exactly the same height and angle ( you can use one of your 2x4's for the jig. You can put a lot of lumber on a 20" length of pipe and if you don't need a row you can take out the pipe and store it until you do.
