Dislodge is a better word. Happened to me once with a plane, at a very early juncture, then I decided life was too short to do much dinking around with pitted tools. Clean examples cost, what, maybe $30 bucks or so more?

As long as one doesn't feel the need to own four each of every series plane Stanley, et al. ever made, then sourcing clean examples represents a miniscule expense in the grand scheme. Or, just go with new from a boutique or small manufacturer.

I've used Evaporust on some garden tools. It leaves a dark film. I never noticed much else as I simply sharpened them up (where appropriate) and used them. Whether or not it leaves behind iron phosphate like other rust removers somebody else would have to confirm. I'm not a chemist, or even an armchair one.
