Moses, my pleasure. As to heating I suspect your Coleman burner would work, but an alternative, and no doubt a great deal safer, would probably be a single electric hot plate hob. I've just had a look on the US Amazon website and can see such items sell from about $16 and up.

As to the reason for gas rings for the task in that first professional workshop at the beginning of my career I'm not sure. I suspect it may have been an inheritance thing: perhaps the place was, at some point before my employment there, lit by gas lights, but I don't know if that's the case. Slainte.
