Making something like a plane that is of a single piece of small wood is a world of difference from making a piece of furniture with dozens of much larger parts made over the course of days or weeks or even months. Maybe others succeed where I do not, but I can not make, store, handle, assemble these parts without scuffs and dings that need to be fixed before the finish goes on. Prior to finishing I am always steaming dents, filling holes, blending scuffs. A piece of sand paper is an essential part of my process.
