Consciously I know that, but I just never got past it.

Mostly I was turning for furniture and I felt each leg needed to be the same, but too inexperienced to deal with problems that came from poorly timed catches. I also remember that turning down an area where there had been one was more prone to another until you got through the wood that had caught.

Its one of the few skills I never managed to teach myself, though I don't doubt that someone could have taught me to do it. I do remember enjoying turning in the high school shop, no doubt there is a corollary with what we were saying about cutting dovetails to "not matter". Once it matters the standard of perfection becomes a block rather than something useful.
