I consider your reply eminently reasonable ; it obviously comes from much practice and experience. And I may actually do as you say. I did finish the oak tails today-- five of them. I can't really say it was fun. I found it to be hard work. Now I have to do my best with the pin board.

I used to take piano lessons from a superb teacher years and years ago. He didn't believe in practicing scales and arpeggios over and over for technique. but he certainly believed in technical practice. His method was to find technically difficult passages in actual music ( there's plenty) and practice the difficult parts that way. So you get the technique down and even learn new music.

So I may do what you suggest, more or less, but with actual projects, like this oak base for a shooting board, for example.
