I should know better than to argue with an expert; but seeing is believing: I only have to march upstairs to my den, where there is a fine looking oak Morris chair. I suppose that doesn't prove anything-- there's is always the exception to test the rule.

Anyway, I'm not making furniture. This oak board is for the base of a shooting board. I happen to live near DC, where we have the Renwick Gallery (I actually demonstrated wood turning to the press there once, right before the Bresslers donated some 60 pieces from their collection.) I will ask them about period American furniture made from oak -- not that i doubt anything you say!
