Re: baseball and dovetails

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
There’s a fair amount of period furniture made from oak.

I have a book documenting Connecticut Valley furniture and there is not a single oak piece in it. Ditto Upper Canada furniture. Ditto Westchester County. The MESDA collection. Etc. What books catalog oak Period Furniture?

Oak drawer sides are common in later English furniture but the unpleasantness of dealing with oak was mitigated by fashioning tiny pins that would be mostly sawed away with 3 kerfs.

While I think it misguided to practice dovetailing with oak it can can be done if your chisel is sharp and stays that way.
