Although crudely, you make a valid point. How one does what one does depends on a lot of variables with inexperience and ignorance only two of the factors. Hence, it is likely inaccurate to attribute someone's different means to an end to inexperience or ignorance. Don't go there until you have walked in their moccasins in their shop.

That said, it certainly is of great value to share how stuff is done. There is often room for improvement even if it comes from later than the 18th century.
