I recall from a discussion last year that a lot of otherwise period looking pieces are being made now and finished with polyurethane (polyurethane meaning a whole lot of different things, from the stuff at lowes to really really hard two part finishes).....

At least from some makers.

Are wood orientation issues being copied, but wood heavily sanded and then finished with polyurethane now?
