Your observation is correct and I would not do that if future cracking was unacceptable. Unfortunately, we are missing the person who knew why that glue joint was being used.

I just looked at the cover again and expected to see only one of the tenons with glue on it. Anyway, only Phil and the client know what was expected of the piece after completion. Had that been an article on producing that piece we'd know more.

If that was a strict reproduction then the flaws are part of the reproduction as well.
