like the adaptation. As I recall, your bench is deep - that leads to a sore back planing a hump out of a bench.

When I was a kid, we built R/C airplanes on what was I believe a hollow core door (can't remember now). They weren't quite as flimsy back then, at least not the decent ones.

Went home to my mother's house about a decade ago and she'd gotten a big long desk with file cabinets under it and a nice table cloth over the top. I lifted the cloth, and it was nothing but R/C door on top of two short file cabinets!

Sometimes other things work better than "the right thing".
