When figure was shown, my dad would use mahogany veneer. My brother and I brought a bunch of his pieces to the US. I have a solid mahogany and mahogany veneered desk from him. Unfortunately the finish on the top has minor damage and I will have it repaired in the future.

I'm pretty sure the species of mahogany in Peru is of the Swietenia macrophylla (honduran) species. I think it was pretty common back in the 70s. I remember a shipment he got a large planks when I was a kid. He kept a large one, I think 4"x 2.5' x 8', as his bench top. It's still there, we haven't figured out what to do with it.
