One inch for each test iteration - backed by very soft fir plywood that challenges no edge and even planes without damaging edges (I can't even see the glue in it - it's ideal in a test like this).

To do the test, I strike the chisel in the middle of the inch section to make it easier to see how much I'm chopping at a time and then tackle each half in five or 6 leaves.
