Response on old chisels () Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
I have chisels from 1/8" to 2" in a set, Jennings. (they are for sale if anyone interested)
Most of the chisels are sharpened with a convex profile over half or more of the tip side of the bevel. Some have the"glint" at the edge, from wear or Unicorning, I do not know. Two have a tiny back bevel, just a glint along the back edge. None of these chisels are sharpened as the intersection of two planes.
More observations are going to be necessary to explore the possibility that chisels of old were Unicorned. Someone in the club bought a tool chest from a cabinet maker's estate in Syracuse, NY. I'll ask if he messed with the chisels.
