I did not simply strop. 1 micron diamond followed by strop. But critically, I think, I had in mind the profile I thought was necessary. As I pulled the chisel across the diamond plate I increased the angle (5-10 degrees) in a rolling motion to create what I hoped would be a convex bevel, like an airplane wing . About 5 strokes on each as I recall. The more aggressive cutting action of the sharpening step was probably critical. The strop may or may not have done anything important.

I was needing to make drawers and this exercise was more geared to getting a chisel prepared to make drawers than acquiring fundamental information on the process. It worked for making 5 drawers but didn't glean much information to guide others.
