Another grinder debris story

David Gli
When I switched over to CBN wheels, the debris coming off the grinder was just tool steel. I thought why not just put a magnet close to the wheel to catch the debris. This would however eventually mean I would need to clean the magnet. So why not just put the magnet in a ziplock bag? You all know now where this is going.

The magnet worked brilliantly until it didn't. When reshaping the grind on an old, but new to me plane iron, I smelled something funny. There, behind my grinder was my ziplock bag and a good sized pile of swarf, not flaming but smoldering and melting the bag. I am now back to vacuuming when I am done working.
