Subject:
Revelation and a wood block story

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
I have some big bench chisels and rarely use them because they are too unwieldy. I see, the solution is a butt chisel.

Before I bought the Wolverine grinder rest I fashioned an equivalent from a piece of 3/8 plywood. The large surface area was a vast improvement from the dinky rests the grinder came with. One day I was aggressively grinding a mower blade. The sparks were flying. They were also accumulating on the underside of the plywood, soon to be followed by a cloud of wood smoke. The large area plywood was replaced by the nonflammable steel rest.

Grinding a chisel should not generate enough sparks to result in a similar ending.
