Subject:
what I did for a short chisel

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
I made the chisels I use. In an after thought I converted a piece of steel from another purpose to what turned out to be a short chisel. The length of the chisel is shorter than the distance across my Wolverine grinder rest/platform. I was not pleased by this discovery.

To sharpen it I fasten with double sided tape a more narrow piece of wood on the rest and use it to guide the chisel. Not ideal but it works. The annoyance is that the angle of the rest needs to be changed for the raised platform.

As a curiosity, what is the advantage/purpose of the short butt chisel over the "standard" length?
