The wood is so bright and clear!

Sycamore is common here (anywhere there's a ditch or creek close by), but I've never seen anyone do anything with it and I don't have access to take a log of it anywhere. Some of the trees are gigantic (6ft or more across at chest height) and would yield nice quartered boards.

Quartered stuff has been used on some limited run guitars in place of mahogany for backs and sides (acoustics).

What's the hardness like? like cherry or so? I've never worked it and have a board of "london plane" that I got at hearne years ago - it planes more like something between soft and hard maple and is entirely different even though the tree outsides look similar.
