Will try the leads, too, at some point...

I've got a lot of things on my tinker list (guitars, chess pieces - turned a few more test pawns over the weekend, and putting together a piece of casework without the use of any power tools at all), but making the leads appears to be more attainable than I thought it would be.

As I gather it, pretty much mixing fine graphite and clay, firing at 1800F after extruding from something similar to a fondant extruder and allowing to dry, and then dip in wax. From what I was able to read, the amount of clay vs. graphite is the basic control for lead hardness.

Finding really good lead smooth for a reasonable price hasn't been that easy, and I have everything but the graphite already from making soap.
