They will break easier than round, at least until encased in wood, and probably after. I think the same principle applies with solid shapes as with holes cut in a skin - corners will tend to concentrate stresses, allowing fractures to start. The reason portholes are round. On the other hand, physics class was a looooong time ago! :D
