Re: Low Tech Pencil Fascination

Don Stephan
Going to hugely embarrass self, but are the Blackwing and others mentioned are wooden pencils or mechanical ones? For writing on paper .5mm Pentel 205 has been my favorite for decades, but for writing on wood I use a box of wooden pencils purchased at a local big box office supply store. After a hand crank pencil sharpener like I grew up with in the 50's and 60's would not symmetrically remove the wood, I bought an electric pencil sharpener to get a symmetric sharpening. Same result, makes me wonder if the lead is not centered in the wood. Is it my bad luck with 2 different styles of new sharpener? Are wooden pencils that poorly made today? Or something else? Whittling away extra wood on one side is frustrating.
