Lead

My son suggests that, rather than getting your own graphite and clay, making a suitable oven, experimenting with the graphite/clay mix, and so on, you search out the best mechanical pencil leads. Kind of cheating, of course...missing out on all that experimentation (will adding horse dung improve the lead? What if I make the leads hexagonal?).

Me, I'll find my quality pencils at the estate sales and call it good. Presently sitting on probably a lifetime supply of Ticonderogas and other good brands. I don't necessarily need the Maybach of pencils; just pencils on which the leads won't snap when I go to use them.
