I've sharpened the blackwings (and others) with planes and knives, but I must admit to being too cheap to sharpen the blackwings with anything other than a proper sharpener.

The satisfaction of a manual sharpener like the kum (that's actually sharp and makes continuous ribbons of cedar) is still pretty good. Far better than hand crank or electric pencil sharpeners.
