Are you buying from China?

I don't know where you got your information from but it is not accurate if one considers quality sources of diamond abrasives. Some of this stuff is used in critical applications, like grinding the gyros of ICBM's. Even grinding facets on a $100,000 diamond could be considered critical. Tightly graded abrasives are available for these applications, but probably not on Ebay.

Spend the money and one can obtain ever tighter size specifications. Buy a syringe of paste from China and it will unknown what range particles are present, or their concentration. Personally I buy from reputable lapidary supplies. I would buy from where the gyro polishes buy but the government won't tell me.

In the case of the small alumina it is made by a process that makes tight particle size ranges. It is not made and then sorted.
