Out of curiosity, I looked at the sds for a lot of compounds today for metals of various hardness and various types of polish level. Even the bulk of the well regarded soft metal polishes are alumina with some amount of something else, I'd speculate for identification more than utility.

Diamond may take over at some point, but other than some coarse silica bars, almost everything else is colored alumina with static acid or something else similar as a carrier. The k1 polish that woodcraft sells claims to be .5 to 1 5 micron chrome ox, but the sds would be in Japanese and only the microscope would tell the truth.

When my linde a shows up, I guess I'll mix it with iron oxide so I can see it. Funny that my whining about wanting to see a color on the strip is reinforced by an entry in holtzapffel that those making tin oxide are encouraged to add some iron oxide to the mix to be able to confirm the amount of paste in/on the polishing wheel.

It was a fun little diversion back into something I found interesting long ago.

It was also pretty easy to find inexpensive closely graded alumina in a stick at Rio Grande. Both in 3 and 0.5 micron size.
