....I'll yield to Warren for that. I read little, and it's usually just by chance that I refer to any older writing.
But I was surprised to find that some frenchman discovered chromium in 1797 and by 1838 it was being produced commercially as a pigment. I doubt it took too long before someone somewhere was using it on a strop or plate.
