I very much agree. If you want to get the most from a fine Japanese tool, use the media that was used when the tool was developed, not some harsh modern abrasive that was not developed with fine tools in mind.

Likewise, if you want to get the most out of traditional European tools, use oil stones for finishing. That is the what was used for centuries while these tools were being developed.
