The good thing about going to a lower bevel angle is that most of the material to remove is the soft iron. I'll probably use 120 grit sandpaper for that.

Once I get to the cutting edge, I'm going to try using the Norton 1000 only, instead of the diamond plate. Then I'll also make sure to spend more time on the 5000 and 12000 stones.

If I'm not able to consistently get a good edge with that, I'll try tempering the blade in my oven.

When I got this plane, I didn't set out to learn about how various steels and sharpening media interact, but here I am.
