Thanks, Kent. I recall that you were one of the few that raised your voice about the quality of content vs. catering to a feel good place (that more or less favors advertisers and continuing to draw in the beginner demographic at the expense of anything substantive).

George talks about design. Nothing sells. George shows his old work, nothing sells. Someone starts an argument about premium planes, and even if it's never settled, a bunch of premium planes sell. I get how that place operates.

George operates at a level that almost nobody ever does. I asked him once what he does with his prototypes since it's hard to build something well the first time, and he said "i generally have pretty good luck with them and don't make duds". :\

I asked him about the brass scraper that shows up in the Williamsburg harpsichord video (seemingly being used to thickness a guitar top, even though that wasn't the topic of the video). He said "It was coarsely made. We needed a scraper and i made it in about an hour" (??). I asked how you make an infill in an hour, and he said: *squash a tube of brass to make the outside oval shape, sweat it onto a sole and do most of the work with a mill (including the infill).

he often says "You need a mill and a lathe". I think the mediocrity of everything that I make would get exposed if I could make it at speed and in numbers.

Long story short, I can only satisfy curiosity and fiddle around with stuff like this topic, and I'm comfortable with that.

(George is fine, by the way. He's just not interested in getting on the internet too much lately. I've always been struck by how willing he is to share information - he likes to - even when you're a piker, as long as you're interested in getting advice from him and trying to get better using it, even if your ceiling is low like mine).
