I field dress squirrels which involves breaking the leg bones over the knife edge. The blade metal that survives 100% more rope cutting is going to survive 100% (+/-) squirrel legs. Rope is easier to come by and it is always in season. So rope is tested and a knowledgeable knife buyer can predict squirrel leg performance from rope performance. I don't enjoy sharpening knives any more than plane blades. Less of it is better for me. Your results may differ.
