Inaccurate assessment (We don't see how close we can set the cap iron, we see if we can set it away further and still have it work well), but have fun on other sites. SMC is good for light discussion - in all seriousness, if it gets too far into facts and people start debating anything, they'll shut it off. I watched them castigate George Wilson for suggesting that his opinion might bear more weight than someone who had just started woodworking (it does, of course, but not on that site).

(I doubt you're a beginner - I've never seen a beginner talk about romans and what they did with edges, but before you jump in and express a negative opinion really about anything, it's always good to show something positive instead. Something you're working on, something you've made, a technique. I haven't seen it, but I don't remember anyone - often not even the people who have fed me negative comments in the past and are offended when I address them in earnest in a later post. Life's too short, and my posts are *really* easy to avoid. They have my name on them).

I also doubt there are many people who have given more stuff and more compass calibrating to beginners than I have. It doesn't saddle me with the obligation to make sure everything is suitable for them. I'm solidly advanced beginner - if we couldn't at least get to that point, we'd all be sharpening for 8 minutes and building square things in jigs.
