It will take one graph and 2 minutes explanation to summarize David's blade metal results. Either you are planning on more verbiage than necessary or your group has less attention span than the average teen ager.

And, why is it that knife enthusiasts are passionately interested in the metals their blade is made from and supposedly planing enthusiasts are not?

The noun "metal" is usually reserved for elements. We use the term alloy or steel (which is an alloy) for plane iron material. For centuries.

You can summerize David's results if you want, but the subject is much more complicated, once you start asking questions. Like why did David use diamonds to sharpen the irons? Was it only to accommodate the more goofball materials he tested? Or if he used a sharpening method that took four times as long as his normal routine, where is the savings? Is it true that some of these alloys "take a crappy edge and hold it forever"?

I cannot imagine someone familiar with this stuff suggesting it could be summerized in two minutes.
