..I've always had a bad penchant for carrying on a fight, and even more so if I think I might learn something.

But I've noticed that aside from some steady trollers like Charlie, most of the people are transients and there's usually nothing to learn from them. I tried searching the site to see if there was a "Mark Hooperl" in one of the other sections with interesting work, but couldn't find anything. My original assumption that most of those drive by posts were from people who had been there and done that and were too good to worry much about tools, I think that's a pretty small percentage of the time.

Funny you mention beech - the stick that Brian's try plane is made from is one of the more crumbly earlywood sticks I've planed. Nothing weak about it, and it was good density, but the grouchy behavior when you plane it quartered.
