Bill, I am curious to know which shooting plane you have, the shooting board design you are using, and what results you get?

I have compared many different planes (wooden, iron, low angle, high angle, bevel up and bevel down), different bevel angles, different shooting boards (wooden, iron, ramped, flat) ... and the conclusions are categorical: the longest lasting iron and shooting plane configuration is a low angle bevel up (either a Veritas LA Jack or, better still, a Veritas Shooting Plane, with a PM-V11 iron and a 25 degree bevel. Nothing else comes close.

Regards from Perth

Derek
